Many people are surprised that most resources that are developed for hearing people cannot be used for training Deaf people. The reasons they include:
· vocabulary,
· sentence structure, and
· it is not visual.
Rev. John Reinke is taking classes at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis to learn how to adapt the “hearing” resources to be used with our deaf leaders.
We already use these “deaf” resources on a local level in our home congregations.
One of the final outcomes will be the development of a set of rubrics (guidelines) we can use in adapting hearing materials for our deaf leaders. We are planning to use these rubrics to adapt commentaries and advanced training materials so our leaders can become more skilled.
